PERIODONTALTREATMENT | Jackson Dental, Belle Fourche, Spearfish, Buffalo, SD, Gillette, WY

Periodontal Disease and Treatment

Here at Jackson Dental Clinic our dental hygienists are not just preventative care specialists, but also periodontal therapists.  Periodontal disease is a progressive disease of the periodontium, including the bone and connective tissue that surround the teeth.  When bacteria in the plaque that accumulates on our teeth is not removed, the harmful bone destroying bacteria form and cause our bodies defenses to try to rid the area of this harmful bacteria; thus causing loss of connective tissue and destruction of bone.  This leads to root exposure, bad breath, bleeding of gum tissue, inflammation of gum tissue and in severe cases tooth mobility and tooth loss.  It is very important to catch gum disease at an early stage to stop the progression and stabilize the body's defense system.  At Jackson Dental we offer state of the art, non-surgical, laser periodontal therapy called Osseous Surgery.

PerioLase
The laser fiber, which is only about as wide as a couple of human hairs, is inserted between the gum tissue and your tooth, where it painlessly removes the noxious elements that cause gum disease. You don't have to worry about bleeding, stitches or post-treatment infection, because your gums haven't been cut.

PerioLase: Digital Technology versus Traditional Gum Therapy

Periodontal Disease can become devastating for many patients. Although nobody wants it.... it nonetheless occurs and rapidly advances, for a variety of reasons.

Gingivitis is the usual starting point and although easily treatable for most patients, it commonly develops into a serious disease process.

Traditional disease treatment procedures are considerably invasive and a painful experience for many patients. Like many other treatment methods and techologies in dentistry, perio treatment research has also produced recent advancements in theory and successful treatment methods.

These advancements now enable patients to benefit from non or minimally invasive treatment choices.

Based on active research conducted by two renowned dentists, a gum tissue surgery therapy that incorporates the use of an Nd:YAG laser (most widely used laser platform in modern dentistry) was developed to successfully compete with the more traditional methods of eliminating the process.

Oral DNA

One of the most significant advances in dental medicine, a simple DNA test, can now determine the specific type and quantity of disease-causing bacteria in your mouth!
